Taking a fresh approach to this album found Paisley stretching his boundaries, even as he kept things close – enlisting his band to perform throughout the album and renovating a farmhouse into a recording studio at his Tennessee home, allowing the luxury of time and convenience in experimenting and crafting his most musically ambitious release to date.
“If you would have gone back in time and played this album for the kid who made Who Needs Pictures in 1999, I don’t think I would have believed that you actually had a copy of my future album,” Paisley offers. “It takes going through a lot of things in your life to get to a point where you are ready to sing a certain song. It’s only because I made albums like Who Needs Pictures and Mud on the Tires and Part II that I get to a point that I’m ready to take a chance on something that’s way less predictable like sampling Roger Miller all the way through to collaborating with a rap artist and a member of Monty Python.”
Among the special guests contributing to Wheelhouse are Charlie Daniels, LL COOL J, Eric Idle, Mat Kearney, Dierks Bentley, and Hunter Hayes.
After playing to more than one million fans in the U.S. and Europe on his 2012 Virtual Reality World Tour, Paisley will be supporting Wheelhouse as he headlines his Beat This Summer Tour presented by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, now with dates in 29 cities beginning May 9.
